About PubRank

PubRank is a free tool designed to help researchers, clinicians and students find the most relevant and highest-quality scientific literature — faster than PubMed alone.

Why PubMed isn't enough. PubMed indexes over 37 million articles and returns results sorted by date or relevance — with no indication of journal quality, scientific influence, or citation impact. Finding the best evidence still requires hours of manual filtering.

What PubRank adds. Each article is instantly enriched with three quality signals pulled from independent sources:

• SJR (SCImago Journal Rank) — journal influence weighted by the prestige of citing journals
• CiteScore (Elsevier) — average citations per document over 4 years
• PubRank Score — a combined percentile (0–100) merging SJR and CiteScore into a single rank

🏆 The Podium — our ranking pipeline. In PubRank mode, PubMed is queried by relevance. Results are matched against SCImago quartile data in real time and only Q1 journals (top 25% globally in their field) are kept — the search stops once 500 Q1 articles are collected. These are then split into two tiers by SJR score:

• 🥇 Gold — top 50% of Q1 articles by SJR: the absolute best of the best
• 🥈 Silver — bottom 50% of Q1: still top-quartile, slightly lower journal influence
• 🥉 Bronze — Q2 journals, loaded on demand
• ⚪ Others — Q3/Q4 and unranked journals, loaded on demand

Gold and Silver are active by default. Want more? You can extend the search to earlier years using the year buttons, or broaden the quality threshold by activating Bronze or Others — all on the fly, without restarting the search.
